My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Westin came back to us after his adoption didn`t work out. We have learned that while he is wonderful to people, he may need to be an only dog. We were told he is both toy and food aggressive to other dogs and has a TON of energy! He is potty trained, so that`s a HUGE bonus!! He can be appropriate with other dogs to a point, and then he becomes aggressive, so at this point we are recommending him as an only fellow in the home!

Westin was found here in Jefferson and brought in because that family couldn`t keep him. He is young and happy-go-lucky, a bit shy at first - much the same as Winnie! We are just learning about him, so more to come! He is very quickly becoming a fan-favorite! He is lovable and playful and does a really great Yoda impression - check out his pics! Very cute pup:)

Their adoption process

1.
Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

Find pets online or in person. We do encourage meet and greets with our pets to see how they fit into your lifestyle.

2.
Submit Application

We also require a vet reference if you have a current one, and 2 personal references, with names and phone numbers to call.

3.
Approve Application

If references check out, you will be approved for adoption.

4.
Take the Pet Home

We have a 2-week trial visit for dogs. We hold your paperwork/adoption fee and you take the dog up to 2 weeks to get to know each other.

5.
Sign Adoption Contract

At any point during the trial visit time, we will final the adoption only after you let us know that "he or she is ours"!

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees for animals at the shelter are $100 for a cat and start at $150 for a dog. This fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, rabies and distemper shots, worming, flea preventative, heartworm testing for dogs and Feline Leukemia/FIV testing for cats. Please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire to request an appointment to meet our pets.

We are a volunteer run program, so our animals can have visitors by appointment only, although we will do all we can to work around your schedule.

We are a 501(c)(3) animal shelter in Greene County, Iowa. We are a dedicated group of people who have a strong passion for animals and animal rights. We have a foster care program for dogs and cats, as well as a great group of volunteers who help out with all we do.
