Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hooch is a stunning, charming, quiet-natured 4 year old Dogue de Bordeaux aka French Mastiff mix. This big block-headed boy is quite the lover and likes to pretend that he's a lap dog, even though he weighs nearly 130lbs! With his big floppy ears and gorgeous rusty coat, he knows he's all that!
Hooch came to us with his brother, Bo, after their owner was evicted and had nowhere for them to go. It's obvious that they were well raised and well loved as they're perfect houseguests! Hooch has great manners in the house and mostly likes to sleep throughout the day. Being that handsome is hard work, you know! When he's not sleeping the day away, Hooch loves to cuddle up to his people and get as much attention as he can. He shows amazing body language when meeting other dogs for the first time and is very patient. He's a very loyal boy who likes to stick close to his people and make sure they're safe.
One unique thing about this boy is his oddly shaped tail. You might notice in his pictures that it appears to be bent in the middle- and that's exactly right! When Hooch was a little puppy before he was rescued by his previous owner, he was in a bad situation/location where dogs aren't treated nicely at all. It appears that someone crushed his tail in a door which caused it to break and heal back improperly. Don't get him wrong though, he still knows how to wag that thing at high speeds! He does have some tenderness where his tail was broken and doesn't like to have it messed with a bunch, but otherwise it has given him no issues.
Hooch has been around kids his whole life and does remarkably well with them. He's a very gentle, watchful babysitter and takes his job very seriously. If he senses that something isn't right, he'll let you know right away! His bark, though seldom heard, can sound loud and scary but it's all for show. This guy is actually a big smooshy scaredy-cat! He can be a bit wary of strangers at first, but he warms up quickly.
Hooch is house trained, crate trained, knows a few commands, and does fairly well on a leash. He is good with other dogs but does not require a canine companion to live his happiest life. All he really wants is someone to love on and nap with him all day!
Hooch is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.
