Dog Name: Mabel
Breed: Mastiff Mix
Sex: Female
Age: 1.5
Weight: 60 lbs
Medical Needs: Oooooh this one is a good one. Please read up on this Genetic Disorder..... Mabel is scheduled to be spayed July 31st at Avenue Veterinary Clinic in Milford, Delaware. **** This appointment must be kept according to adoption contract.******
This amazing young lady has a medical issue called Ehlers Danlos: An inherited genetic connective tissue disorder that affects collagen in the skin and joints. This is the same condition that makes people hyper-flexible. Since the condition does not have a cure it is managed by protecting the fragile skin from trauma.
Weekly baths will be needed to keep those folds clean, as she is the wrinkliest of all wrinkle ones.
• Keep nails short and smooth
• Eliminate sharp objects in house and in yard that could catch loose skin
• Monitor for any sores and have them evaluated promptly
• Avoid any ointments or creams topically to the skin
Housebroken: Absolutely
Crate trained: Yes
Good in the car: Yes - looooooves her car rides!
Good on a leash: Yes
Energy level: She has moments of puppy energy, but is short lived and loves to lay in the sun and chew on toys.
Need a fenced in yard: No, she likes to be with her people. On walks she does not go far off leash.
Dog Friendly: Very! Mabel does love to play and interact with other fur friends BUT MUST BE MONITORED.... Her skin is very fragile, and if she gets a cut it could rip. Mabel would be great matched with a gentle pet that does not mind thier toys being stollen a time or two. She would not be matched well with a hard playing dog only becasue of her fragile skin. She was extremely gentle with everyone and wants to give kisses and cuddles. She does do really well with big and small dogs. I had to my train resident dogs to be easy even thought Mabel wants them to bring on the play.
Does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No
Cat Friendly? Not sure yet.
Kid Friendly: Yes.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 6 due to the fact she will jump, which is being worked on. Mabel is also a bit clumsy because of all her loose skin.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
This young lady is straight out of a little kid's comic book, what with her unique looks and goofy charm. Mabel is the funniest and most entertaining bag of wrinkles you will ever meet. She is a mastiff, and while her bones never got that memo... her skin sure did. She has all the wonderful traits of a kind, gentle giant in a small package. She is always up for an adventure and a good time, but is just as happy with neflix marathons and couch cuddling. I can't say enough about her beautiful soul!
