Likes and Dislikes: Due to personality, unsure yet.
What would be the ideal home? A quiet home that will let him settle in at his own pace
Good with other cats? Unknown but possible
Good with dogs? Probably not
Good with children? Probably not
Personality: Very shy and cautious, otherwise pretty independent
How long will it take to settle into a new environment? Likely closer to a full week, and over time will slowly get more comfortable moving around, while in the beginning will be hiding idly for long periods.
Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? Cheese puff is very shy and cautious, so in the beginning he is likely to hide and only come out for food, water and washroom. Sudden movements will alert and scare him away. In the first week or two it is likely he will only hide and never approach.Overtime, after establishing a routine and cheese puff gets comfortable with some hiding spots and walking around poking his head out. If he is hiding and can’t run away, take the chance to be slow, low and gentle, going for head rubs. Because he is cautious, if he is trapped or feels he has been approached too directly or aggressively he is likely to hiss, but he never bites. I personally think that its good to go in for pets and establish a consistent understanding that even though he hisses in caution, you always pet him and never harm him, and overtime he gets closer. He shows signs of slowly getting more curious and being okay walking around near you as long as you don’t directly approach him. At some point, if you get the timing and approach right, if you have a treat in your hand, he may feel its safe enough to go in for the treat and lick your hand. Major progress.
