My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charley's journey to recovery was a remarkable one, as the young feline overcame a devastating injury to not only regain his health, but to thrive in a way that showcases his resilient spirit.
When he first arrived at the shelter, Charley was in a dire state, his pelvis shattered after being struck by a passing car. The damage was extensive but thanks to the compassionate care of a dedicated medical foster, Charley was able to receive the comprehensive treatment he needed to heal.
Over time, with patience and attentive monitoring, Charley's broken bones knitted back together, restoring the structural integrity of his pelvis. However, the injury had caused a subtle but noticeable change to Charley's gait - a permanent "swagger", the result of a slight misalignment in his hip joints.
While this quirky limp may draw curious glances, it in no way diminishes Charley's zest for life. In fact, the energetic kitten has bounced back with a vengeance, running, playing, and engaging in all the rambunctious antics one would expect from a cat his age. He is particularly enamored with toys, batting and chasing them with unbridled enthusiasm. And perhaps most endearingly, Charley loves to perch atop his human's shoulder, surveying the world from his lofty vantage point like a feline parrot.
Though his past trauma has left a lasting physical mark and potential arthritis later in life, Charley is no worse for wear, fully healed and ready to bring his unique brand of joy to a loving forever home that will embrace him, limp and all.

More about this shelter

The Bastrop Animal Control organization became a reality in 1998. We've grown since then and continue to do so as Bastrop County grows. Currently, we have 3 separate buildings containing a total of 90 large indoor/outdoor kennels and 8 play yards. We have 30 indoor cat kennels. We also have a 3 room cattery, that enables cats to live together in colony type environments until they find their forever home. If you have ever worked with or adopted a shelter pet, you know just how much they crave the attention and love we and our volunteers can provide and their eternal gratitude when they find their forever home at last.
