My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dog's Name: Gracie

Location : Fort Atkinson, WI
Age or Date of Birth: July 2021 (estimate)
Gender: Female
Breed: Cane Corso Mix
Foster Dog's Weight: 83 lbs

Gracie gets along with:
Dogs?: All Dogs - Needs a slow introduction to other dogs
Cats?: Unknown but unlikely due to prey drive
Kids?:  Older kids, needs slow introduction

Gracie came from unfortunate circumstances where she was used for breeding. She had her last litter of puppies in August, 2024.  She had some aggression that developed with pregnancy towards other dogs, but continues to make progress e ch day as the puppies get older and find their furever homes..  Gracie is a very loving girl that wants nothing more than to be by her humans side. She is her foster mom's shadow at all times and loves to cuddle on her lap as well as play with her foster siblings.  However, when they play...they play quite rough, but not aggressive toward one another.  Gracie is working at regaining her trust. She is still timid and scared of the world from her traumatizing history and does get scared when someone talks loud or yells at her. We are still working on basic commands like lay down, but has almost mastered sit and come. She does go to "her room" on command, which is a spare bedroom in her fosters home. Gracie is very fond of chewing, especially boxes/paper products (toilet paper, paper towel, etc.).  If left unsupervised with items around the home, she may or may not chew on
them. She also likes to play with toys with her foster siblings, but typically only plays with interactive toys on her own (puzzle treat toys, etc.). Gracie does have a pray drive and attempts to  catch birds and squirrels, but leaves them when told to leave it.

Her perfect adopter would be someone who is patient with her and her training.  She is very smart and obedient once you gain her trust. Ideally her adopter will have experience or know about her guardian breed tendencies. Gracie has not had good interactions with kids so far, but could potentially be around them with continued training.  For now it would be best for her to be in a kid free household.  She does well with other large non-dominant dogs or will also thrive independently with exercise. She does not require a fence, but would require supervision given her prey drive and guardian tendencies.

More about this rescue

Just Giant Rescue Inc (JGRI) is a dog rescue catering to giant breed dogs. We don’t discriminate against breed, but they must be giants such as the regal Great Dane, loyal Mastiff, and clownish Saint Bernard, to name a few.

We strive to follow the 3 R’s.
• Rescuing. We rescue from all types of situations, owner surrenders, and from local shelters. We strive to help as many as we can, with what resources we have available.
• Rehabilitating. All dogs are fostered inside loving homes, becoming temporary family members. They are fully vet checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and guarded against heartworm, fleas and ticks. They are also given a temperament test prior to being eligible for adoption.
• Re-homing. Each dog is individually matched with the best suited adoptive home for them. Each applicant wanting to adopt must fill out an application and complete a home check prior to being approved.
