My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Spyro
Nicknames: Spy-Spy
Sex: Male
Breed: Boxer/Mastiff mix
Age: ~1.5 years
Weight: 76 lbs.
Before OMD: Found as a stray and completed his stray hold at the city shelter. No one came for him unfortunately, but their loss was our gain and we were happy to welcome him into rescue.
Descriptors: Derpy. Lover. Major cuddle bug. Outgoing. A good friend to other dogs.
Moonlights as: Keymaster of Gozer from Ghostbusters, but really any garden variety Gargoyle statue. A ladies’ man with that sultry gaze. Houdini while avoiding being leashed.
Energy level: Perfect combo of low and high - loves to play; loves to cuddle.
Velcro level: High. Prefers to be touching you or his fur siblings.
His favorite things: Toys! Loves his chew toys, rope toys, and stuffed animals. Waiting at the door for his people to get home. Meeting new people (he doesn’t know a stranger). Big fan of all treats, but especially appreciates meat treats.
Guilty of: Using you as his personal napkin after eating or drinking. Walking backwards so he can keep you in his gaze. Being a physical wake up alarm if you hit the snooze button.
What makes us laugh: How clumsy and playful he is. The fact that he is a physical comedian without even trying.
Also: Not a big barker, but will bark on occasion during rowdy play. Enjoys nibbling (but not biting) hands and fingers. Is great on walks and a dream on the leash.
Knows: Sit. Shake.
Working on: Going outside and (ironically) also coming in when told. Being less fearful of putting collars on, and taking car rides. Independence and being alone.
Dogs: Loves a canine sibling. Fostered with multiple dogs and does very well.
Cats: Curious but respectful, does not chase.
Kids: 12+ dog-savvy kids would be great as he can get nibbly/mouthy when excited and might knock small kiddo over.
House-trained: Yes!
Crate-trained: It’s a bit of a complicated relationship. He knows his routine and goes in the kennel willingly every day when foster mom goes to work (and settles after a few minutes), but will also go to the bathroom in the kennel.

Spyro is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from https://omdrescue.org/adoptapp.html

Additional adoption info

One More Dog Rescue (OMD), formerly Ruff Start Happy Tails, requires all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application and agree to a home visit prior to any adoption. Once the application is approved, a meet and greet will be scheduled between the potential adopter (s) and the dog.

When a dog is adopted through One More Dog, an adoption contract must be signed, and we ask that a donation in the amount of $500 ($350 for seniors) be made at the time of adoption to help our rescue cover a portion of the costs we incur through pull fees, vetting, and training.

Applications can be found here: http://www.omdrescue.org/adoptapp.html
*We will adopt to approved applicants (who are able to meet & adopt in person) who live in CT and the surrounding areas: New England, New York, and New Jersey.
