My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there.

My name is Heidi. I was found deep in the woods with my mate by a very nice lady. We were both very emaciated and just plain tired. It is obvious that our owners no longer found us useful to breed anymore. How can people be so cruel???

Lucies was contacted and it was close to impossible to get us in due to our size and condition. Thankfully the volunteers were able to coax us in get us taken to the vet. We both had to take medicated baths daily, as skin scrapes showed some nasty stuff. I was worse though, as I had a large gaping hole in my throat which we assume was a massive abscess that had burst. That required antibiotics and hydrotherapy sessions 2 - 3 times a day.

Here we are now though, all happy and healthy and wanting a loving home. We are gentle giants and love and crave affection and attention.

*** We strive to ensure our dogs are going to a safe, loving and caring home. Phone interviews are required for all adoptions****

Additional adoption info

Interested adopters contact our adoption volunteer either via email or phone. Our volunteer in turn talks to them more about the pet they are interested in. If the adopter seems like a good match, they are requested to complete an application. They come to the rescue location to meet the dog of interest. We also sometimes arrange a home visit to make sure the environment is suitable for the dog. If all is well, they will get a call from a volunteer letting them know they are approved for adoption. They will be provided copies of the vaccination and sterilization records. A delivery day will be arranged for the dog. Either the adopter may come and pick up the dog, or a volunteer can arrange to have the dog delivered. They sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. We do periodically contact our adopters to check up on the dog to make sure everyone is happy and healthy and enjoying their new life!

More about this rescue

Local Unity for Canines In Emergency Situations. We are a dog rescue organization, not a shelter or a pound!

We are a group of neighbors who, as a community effort, are helping the many strays and dumped dogs in the area. We take them in, care for them, feed - vaccinate - worm - socialize, and try to find them forever homes. We do depend on donations to help out, and will accept food, medication, bedding, fostering, and direct donations to Veterinarians.
