My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Patrick and Portia are a pair of brother and sister adult mixed breed dogs. These dogs are special in lots of ways but one of the things that makes them unique is they have mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Cereberral Hypoplasia is an underdevelopment of the cerebellum which controls balance and makes anyone who suffers from it "wobbly."

Both dogs have various degrees of CH. Patrick has a more mild form and gets around pretty well (and adorably.) Portia has a more mild to moderate form of CH and struggles to keep her balance while walking.  Both are ambulatory on all four limbs but will need support and encouragement along the way for some basic functions.

They are both fully potty trained and alert when they need to go outside to use the bathroom. They are able to squat or stand and fully evacuate with no issues allthough it is not uncommon for Portia to lose her balance while having a bowel movement and fall over. She may need assistance to get back up and encouragement that she's still a good girl.

They currently live with other dogs and cats and have no issues coexisting with them. It is unknown how they do around children or livestock but based on their mild personalities it is assumed that they would do well although we can do a trial for this before adoption.

Portia is the more timid of the two but when she comes around, she's a total love bug who loves to cuddle and spend time with her owner. She absolutely loves chewing on Nylabones and knuckle bones and will entertain herself for hours chewing on one. A great opportunity for inexpensive enrichment for dogs like Portia who aren't suited for your typical adventure.

Portia may be adopted as a pair with Patrick, or individually however, we think she'd do best in a home with another dog to be with.

Both Patrick and Portia are microchipped, come fully vaccinated and dewormed, and are spayed and neutered. They will come home with medical records and a leash and collar as well as a sample of their food. The adoption fee is $200 for the pair or $200 for just Portia. To apply to adopt, please submit an application at www.murcismission.org.

Thank you for being interested in our dogs! They certainly are special and we hope to find the perfect family that can open their home and hearts to these perfect dogs.

More about this rescue

From the day we could talk we told our pets more than we ever told our parents. We took the long route to see the kitty in the window down the street. We stopped even when we were late to pet the dog. We grew up and we saw what the world does to those who can't defend themselves. We are here to change that.

Ethical rescue, including fully vetting every animal and carefully placing them all into homes matched to their physical and mental needs is what we do.

Respecting all life, both animal and human, while retaining an underlying goal of keeping animals in their homes. and fostering a sense of community between local shelters and rescues is how we do it.
