My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Former colony cat, rescued with severe mouth infection, dental disease, flea bite anemia, and emaciation.

Very sweet boy, a gentle soul!  Loves being petted, loves scritches and loves tummy and chest rubs.  Purrs easily. Worms his way into your heart, you can’t help but love him.

Frightens easily, needs a patient adopter to help him settle in at his own pace. Probably has had a tough life and negative experiences with humans, needs a safe and loving home to spend the rest of his days. He runs and hides when frightened (does not hiss, bite or scratch or behave aggressively).  He will pee when extremely frightened. Does not like to be picked up.

He has improved markedly during his foster – he rubs legs, plays and rolls around on the rug, sometimes lets out a little meow when it’s time for breakfast.  Would probably benefit from the company of other cats.

Spends most of his time in his “safe place” hiding spot (favorite places the closet, under the bed, on/under the bookshelf, or on dining room chairs when they’re pushed under the table).  Loves to lounge and look out the window.

Likes catnip and plays with toy mice, catnip stuffed toys and plastic balls with the bell inside.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat (but would prefer to be with other cats).

Stephen was rescued with dental issues and had dental surgery. In lieu of an adoption fee, we would be thrilled for a potential adopter to provide a larger adoption donation and/or assistance crowdsourcing funds towards their necessary vet bills if possible.

This cat has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and would benefit from an echocardiogram -- we would appreciate it if their potential adopter could help us cover this cost in lieu of an adoption donation.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
