Hi everyone, my name is now Maverick. My name is a Fourth of July/ Freedom theme, which my foster parents picked because it means adventurous, bold, and free; a term associated with the independent spirit of the US! I’m not yet living up to my name because I am still shy, fearful, and mentally trapped in the 4’ x 6’ pen I spent my entire life in. I am a 6-year-old black and tan male Shiba Inu. I’m on the larger side, and we will have my weight after my neuter and dental. I was very quiet when we arrived at Shiba HQ from the AR commercial breeding facility. I had to be separated by an xpen from the girls when we first arrived at Shiba HQ. All the girls gravitated to me and would curl up next to my pen. I love being around friendly females. I did bark at the other male who came with us from the breeding facility. My foster family noticed I am very fearful, and I wouldn’t eat for the first few days in rescue. Everything is so new and scary; I don’t know what will happen. My foster parents are taking their time to build my trust. I am living with another female, Shiba Inu, a DC SIR alum! I don’t know how to walk on a leash yet, but I am very easy to handle, pick up, and groom! I will need a loving and patient home to help me build confidence as I learn about the world outside my pen. I am very handsome, so you may want to get your application in to adopt me fast! I will be available for adoption after DC SIR covers all my medical needs.
My foster parents reported this after my neuter: "He did extremely well in the car ride home and has been a brave boy. He is resting on a dog bed now (for the first time)! He usually prefers the floor but maybe this experience will introduce him to the soft bed life He got some plaque removal on his teeth but does not appear to have any teeth pulled."
