My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, I'm Alvin! I'm a handsome black and tan male Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail. I'm a bit furrier than your average Dobie, but my DNA test confirms I'm a purebred. I've had quite a journey, but I'm here and ready to find my forever home. I'm a special needs Dobie and use a wheelchair to get around. The doctors say with consistent physical therapy and exercise I should be able to walk again, but there's no guarantee. For now, and maybe forever, I'm a doberman-on-wheels. It doesn't get me down though, and it shouldn't get you down either!

A Little About Me:

Personality:
I'm as sweet as they come! I love attention and will make you feel like the most important person in the world. I'm a top-notch cuddler and the ideal couch buddy. While I'm not as mobile as I used to be, I still love to explore and enjoy the outdoors. These days, I settle for sunbathing and bird-watching, which I find quite relaxing. I'm great with other dogs, indifferent to cats, and even did well with a rabbit at my previous foster home. I'm wonderful with kids and just an all-around gentleman.

My Story:
I was found as a stray and picked up by animal control. When no one came to claim me, Georgia Doberman Rescue took me in. I tested positive for heartworms and underwent treatment. After that, I had some serious mobility issues due to a spinal problem. I had spinal surgery and am now undergoing physical therapy to regain my strength and mobility. I might always need a little help getting around, but I have a wheelchair that I use, and it doesn't stop me from being the happiest, sweetest boy.

Manners and Training:
I've got good manners and am very patient despite my challenges. I need some extra attention and frequent trips outside due to muscle atrophy and some incontinence issues, but my vets are hopeful that this will improve as I continue to build my strength. I love spending time with my humans and other dogs, and I'm always up for some gentle play or a good cuddle session on the couch.

Health and Vetting:
I've been through a lot, but I'm in good health now! I'm up-to-date on all my vaccines, heartworm negative since my treatment, negative for intestinal parasites, neutered, and microchipped. I'm all set and ready to join a loving family.

Why You'll Love Me:
If you're looking for a sweet, resilient companion who will shower you with love and affection, I'm your guy. While I need a lot of patience and extra care, the love and joy I'll bring into your life will be worth it. Apply to adopt me today and let's enjoy life's simple pleasures together!

Can't wait to meet you!
Love,
Alvin

A Doberman that comes into GDR has us behind them for life, as does their adoptive family.

Our adoption process includes:
1. Initial Application and review
2. Vet and personal reference check
3. Home visit
4. Board and foster review

Go meet their pets

More about this rescue

Georgia Doberman Rescue is a non profit, volunteer organization, dedicated to rescuing and re-homing abandoned or homeless Doberman Pinschers from shelters or owners who have surrendered them. By working with volunteers, foster homes, veterinarians and trainers, we are able to place these dogs in loving temporary homes for assessment and rehabilitation, and then into carefully screened forever homes. We are an educational resource for the Doberman owner, and provide information on responsible pet ownership, good nutrition, positive behavioral training and the importance of spaying and neutering pets.
