My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zacai is a 5-month old male German Shepherd mix puppy who was picked up as a stray by Shafter Animal Control. We continue to find it difficult to understand how someone could abandon such a young animal, who is unable to fend for itself, but here we are yet again. In conjunction with assistance from The Kern Project organization who reached out to us, we agreed to bring him into our program to find him an appropriate home.

As Zacai is new to us, we will post additional information as we come to know him better. What we can tell you is that he is a very sweet, happy, and friendly young pup. He is beginning to de-stress in his foster home, and beginning to shine like the beautiful pup that he is.

Zacai is just learning about his crate, and is doing well.  He is currently getting acquainted with his new environment. At only 3 months old, he already weighs 29 lbs, and with his fairly large paws, we expect he will be a big boy.

Zacai will require a committed and loving human who will make him a part of the family, providing the care and attention that every young pup needs.

Only older dog-savvy children 8 and above in an adoptive home will be considered.  No cats or other small animals.

It will be necessary for an adopter to have recent successful experience in raising a GSD, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or other large breed working puppy. An adopter who will begin and continue his obedience training based upon positive reinforcement, including positive corrections for unwanted behavior, is recommended, to ensure he remains on the path of a well-behaved canine companion.

We are currently screening applications for the best possible fit; however, he will not be available for adoption placement until all age appropriate vaccinations have been completed.

More about this rescue

Redwood Coast German Shepherd Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and placement of sound German Shepherd dogs (and mixes) in their forever homes, where they will be loved and cherished as a member of the family. Our volunteers take the time needed to understand each dog’s needs and temperament so that placement is matched appropriately with an adopter(s). Owner surrenders may be accepted, but only as space permits, as shelter dogs at risk of euthanasia remain our first priority.

Adopting from our organization adds to the close-knit family of German Shepherd owners, who are intermingled with each other similar to the deep rooted system of the Redwood trees.
