My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How Susie arrived:
Susie was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on 4/19/24.

At SDHS:
Susie has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Susie is now ready for her new home!

Why this pet is the one for you:
We'd like to introduce you to Susie. We are so proud of this girl! When she first came into our care, she was extremely fearful. She was too scared to venture out of her kennel and needed a lot of treats and reassurance (which we were all too happy to provide). We gave this sensitive soul the time she needed to develop trust and start to feel safe with us. And she has come so far! Though Susie still struggles with shyness and will need your help and support when encountering new people and environments (making sure to take things slowly and giving her the time and space she needs to adjust), we just know she is going to make a wonderful and loyal companion. Once she feels comfortable, Susie forms deep bonds and shows her affection through gentle nudges and gently taking treats. She will benefit greatly from continued positive reinforcement training to help her continue to develop her leash-walking skills, and a quiet home where any outside access is secure and escape-proof would be best. More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
