My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

No one knows you like your foster mom, and here’s what Rocko’s has to say about him: “Rocko is my EASIEST foster yet!!! [He is] truly an easy dog for someone looking for a companion. He genuinely likes people and dogs, is submissive to our Alpha female dog, and is not overly excited to engage. He is a people pleaser who rarely barks. Rocko likes to play with toys, especially tug o’ war, and he loves giving kisses.” Rocko also is housetrained, crate trained, adept at using a doggie door, and knows how to sit, lay down, and shake. His foster mom reports that Rocko is a “go with the flow” guy who loves to hang out and adapts easily to new situations, people, and dogs.

What breed is Rocko you ask? We wondered too! The results are in, drumroll please... Rocko's DNA results show he is 48.7% American Bulldog, 24% American Bully, 18.2% Bulldog and 9.1% SUPERmut! Rocko does well with dogs that are similar in size to him, though he hasn’t met any small dogs yet. He’s 57 lbs., about 8 years old, and a fantastic walker. In addition to high praise from his foster mom, our lead trainer, Carlo, wants everyone to know that “Rocko is an awesome pup!” Are you ready to give Rocko the forever home he’s been waiting for in exchange for many, many free kisses? Please apply today!November 4, 2024, 8:32 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. The first step is to fill out an app here: https://thelittlereddog.org/adoption-form

More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
