My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Courtney Nobles (courtneyn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy seeking love!

HEALY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Healy       Best Guess for Breed:  Lab mix

Best Guess for Age:   1.5 years as of July 2024       SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight:  55 lbs

Gets Along With:   Other doga! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested

Currently Living at:   DC area home

Special adoption considerations: Healy is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

All about Healy:

Healy is a sweetie who loves, loves, loves his humans and loves other dogs. Inside the home, he's a low-key companion who likes it nice and quiet. Actually, that's how he is indoors and out. He's got his priorities straight - he by far prefers to walk in quieter areas outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. Sniffing, after all, is so much more enjoyable when the ambient sounds are the breeze and singing birds instead of rumbling garbage trucks and honking horns.

Healy enjoys playing with other dogs! He has gone to dog parks and doggie daycare, and would love to continue having opportunities to interact with pup pals. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on his wish list as well, but what he wants most of all is to know he's safe and loved for all his days. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all his days.

What do you say? Is Healy the hiking buddy you have been seeking?

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
