UPDATE 5/19/06: Sasha is a beautiful 4-year-old girl, who is learning there is more to life than just producing puppies so someone else can make money. When her previous owner, a high volume backyard breeder, had her home condemned, Sasha along with several others were shuffled from place to place. Eventually their owner did the right thing and turned her dogs over to rescue. Because Sasha's previous life was only for breeding purposes, she had not been properly socialized with people. She entered her new life as a regular dog scared and cautious, but she is adjusting to her new role.
Sasha is a wonderful dog and she has really come a long way in foster care. She has come out of her shell in the last month and has shown her foster parents that she has quite a personality. She is very people focused and eager to please, so her training has been steadily progressing. She rides very well in the car, is house trained, crate trained and walks well on leash. Her known commands are sit, down, stay, no, come, off and she is learning heel.
Sasha is living with a male and female Rottie in foster care, but she doesn’t pay much attention to them. Unless they are getting attention that she wants, then she will try to get in between to get the attention for herself or if in her crate she will whine while the other dog gets attention. Otherwise, she just ignores them if they try to initiate play with her. She is more submissive towards the male, but is still not interested in interacting much with him either. She is walked regularly beside the male, so she doesn't mind his company. She behaves appropriately when meeting other animals of all sizes and is not bothered by other dogs barking at her when out in public...she just prefers to interact with her people. However, this could change with the right dog.
Sasha has gained much needed weight since coming to RRUFF and now weighs a healthy 80 lbs. She is an active dog, but she will settle and lay contently at your feet while you watch TV or work on the computer. She is happy just to be close to you. She has shown no food or toy aggression with her foster parents. As a matter of fact, she will only play with toys when her foster parents initiate it. She can be very active and quite fast when running around and playing, but when her people stop she stops. The only thing she has picked up and amused herself with is her nylar bone, which she usually chews on after her dinner.
Sasha has improved greatly with meeting new people. She is no longer afraid to approach someone and will give kisses on the hand. She can still be skittish at times, but she will recover. She is a love bug with those she knows and trusts and if allowed would crawl up and cuddle on your lap. Her foster mom says she gives the best hugs she has ever received.
Sasha still has some adjusting to do in her new life, but she has shown so much progress that we know she will continue with the right guidance.
Sasha is currently being fostered in Southern NH.
