Xander, a stunning black Chow with a heart as vast as the Texas skies, is now available for adoption! This 45-pound, 1.5-year-old pup was rescued from the Killeen shelter and is seeking a loving forever home.
Xander’s Highlights:

- Enjoys entertaining himself
- Sweet and affectionate nature
- Loves going for walks and meeting new people
- Calm and content in his crate
Xander has been making great progress in learning to trust and relax. He enjoys outdoor play and quiet time in his crate. Xander is a social dog who loves the company of others, but his high energy can be overwhelming for more reserved dogs. To manage interactions, we are currently working on muzzle training. This will help ensure that Xander can continue to socialize with other dogs.
**Xander is located in Austin, TX. Paid transport can be arranged. Transport costs range from $200-400.**

Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. We are an entirely volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with no administrative costs.
Our rescue traces its origin back several years to the work of Dianne Watson. Dianne dedicated much of her young life to saving homeless Chows in North and West Texas. In her memory, Houston Chow Chow Connection continues her passion of uniting Chow Chows with perfect forever families.
HCCC began rescuing in 2013 and re-homed over 400 dogs since inception, including over 125 in 2017! Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled north and south! As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. As you may know, rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments.
At HCCC we don’t pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, Chows with physical issues, or disabilities. Some of our incoming babies have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. New HCCC dogs may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues.
