Meet Zoo, or better known as Zoozoo!
Zoozoo is a 4 years young and despite his rough start he's got a lot more love and life in him!
Zoozoo found himself in the NYC ACC twice, both times he was brought in by good samaritans who found him as a stray. Though he kept smiling for his 7 months at the shelter, enjoying his time and his people there, it was discovered he needed more specialized medical care for his needs. ELO stepped in and sprung this goofball from the shelter environment to give our precious boy all the care he needs.
Zoo is a smart boy knowing sit, lay down, come, paw, and his name! He is a strong boy on leash but doing amazing using a front clip harness and will only continue to get better with more training.
Zoo has met a few children and was calm, respectful, and interested. Due to his size, strength, and lack of spacial awareness it is recommended he live with older kids or with direct supervision with children.
Zoo is excited to meet new dogs, but he can come off a little strong so he does best with a slow intro and not meeting dogs on leash. If we stop to talk to another dog owner on a walk, I keep him a distance away so he can't say hi until he's had adequet time to observe the other dog as we continue to work on calm introductions. He is currently living with a canine foster brother and they are wonderful together, most ignoring each other or cuddling together for a nap. They sniff and lick each other's noses and have few moments of attempted play (Zoo is an awkward playmate LOL), but they are happy to sit together chewing toys.
Zoo's favorite things include a comfy bed, rope toys, food, cuddles, and going for walks to find squirrels. He does have a high prey drive so a home with no small animals is a must. The one thing he doesn't enjoy is getting his ears cleaned and an adopter should continue cooperative care training for this!
At first Zoo was a little Houdini, magically busting out of his crate when I wasn't home, but with some training has become a wonderful pup in his crate, sometimes letting out less than 5 min of whining, but mostly happy to follow his frozen kong or meal into his crate and then snooze! He is also an excellent gentleman when left alone and not crated, happiest snoozing on the couch the entire time I'm gone. He's come a long way in this!
Zoo is fully house trained as he will go to the door and tap his leash when he needs to go outside. Due to his medical needs he is experiencing incontinence, but it is easily managed by using belly bands whenever we are inside. He doesn't mind them at all and even comes over when I tell him it's time to change them! We are working with a specialist to figure out what is going on exactly but we've been told he's not in any pain or discomfort... and that he's the medical team's favorite boy has he hams it up for them. Zoo really is the happiest boy all the time and has no idea anything isn't right. Regardless of the incontinence, he is one of the easiest fosters I've ever had.
Zoozoo is nothing but love. This boy hasn't had the easiest life but you'd never know upon meeting him. His beautiful coloring and infectious smile gets him all the attention walking around town. He's a great subway rider, true NYC boy, and the sweetest mush you'll ever meet. He is a low energy dog who would love a home that enjoys spending time outside and also cuddling on the couch forever.
