My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beautiful Betsy is a young, petite miniature poodle looking for an understanding and patient forever home of her own. This shy, reserved girl has been through a lot in her young life. She bounced around multiple shelters in California and Utah before landing with CAWS a few months ago. Up until then, she had no socialization with humans causing her to be skittish around people and easily startled. Betsy still thinks people and human touch are terrifying and is most content being allowed to explore at her own pace. While she currently isn't able to be touched or petted, she has come a long way in just a short time. She takes treats, sleeps on her foster's bed, comes when called, and snuggles all day with the other dog in her foster home. She loves chew toys and she loves playful dogs her size - they help her play and gain confidence. Betsy needs another dog in her forever home who will help her continue to build her confidence and learn the routine. She will also need a secure yard she can explore at her own speed. She's a smart and clever girl and we are confident in time she will trust the right person and she'll bloom. If she is allowed to exist near you without being given direct attention, she becomes playful, runs around, and takes treats. She is curious about what is going on, but likes to stay just out of reach. Betsy does not shed, and she will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. This special dog will require a dog savvy family, ideally experienced with fearful dogs and positive training techniques. Betsy is so adorable and she wants to learn to trust people. Given time, space, and gentleness she will learn how to love and will be the most rewarding canine companion.

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. ALL CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
