My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nala is a very sweet tabby who is looking for a great new home. She was born in September, 2019 and has been adopted twice.  The first time by a lovely family who was crushed when they discovered they were allergic to her!  The second by a lady who came into some hard times and had to give her up.  She has always been adopted with her brother Noah (see picture with both of them) but could easily be adopted by herself.  She is playful, needs a large high-sided litter box and has had some experience with dogs.

All PAWS-OK cats and kittens have been fostered in a home environment and are litter box trained, up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed or neutered and have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV prior to being made available for adoption. The adoption fee is $80 (cash only). A few of our cats are available to meet in our Adoption Center at PetSmart on NW Expressway and Rockwell in OKC. Please check our website at pawsok.com and go to the ADOPT tab to see their pictures. The first step in adoption is to complete an Adoption Request form which we use to help us match you with a cat or kitten that best meets your desires, experience and home environment.

Adoption Requests take 2-4 days to process and initial contact will be made via e-mail should the counselor have additional questions. PAWS-OK volunteers fosters may also reach out to you via phone for an interview. NOTE: The whole family needs to be present at the interview / adoption because some cats don't like everyone and we want to ensure that the whole family (cat included) is happy with the adoption. Thanks for adopting a rescued cat - they make the best pets!

Additional adoption info

Adopting a new pet for your home is a big decision and should not be entered into without proper consideration of your lifestyle and the needs of the pet. We are open to all lifestyles and believe responsible pet owners are a very diverse group of people.

On line Adoption Requests are available at www.pawsok.com on the Adoptable Cats page, or pick one up in our Adoption Center at PetSmart (8357 N Rockwell, OKC 73132)

We understand that some adopters have very specific needs that often we can't fill. For example, some adopters desire their cats to be declawed or to "mouse" or live outside. We seldom have these type of cats in our rescue but we are happy to reach out to others on behalf of the potential adopter, or direct them to other sources in an effort to find them a suitable feline companion.

We will, when appropriate, make contact with applicant's landlords and veterinarians before approving an adoption. It is very important to us that all pets in the household are current on all their vaccinations including rabies (state law), spayed or neutered and have a history of annual veterinarian visits.

Landlord Pet Deposits (per animal) are required at the vast majority of apartment complexes in the metro area. We may contact an applicants landlord to make sure the adoption of a new cat is within the apartment guidelines and that the pet deposit has been paid prior to adoption.

If at any time the adopter can no longer care for the cat they adopt from PAWS, we will take it back into our adoption program. Simply contact us. Returns can normally be arranged within days of the initial call.

Go meet their pets

PAWS cats are all fostered in family homes where they are socialized, stimulated and cared for by our loving volunteers. About few of our adoptable cats and kittens can be viewed in our Adoption Center inside the PetSmart on NW Expressway and Rockwell during normal business hours (Mon-Sat 9 AM - 8 PM, Sun 10 AM - 5 PM). Due to COVID any of our cats are available to meet, by appointment, for applicants with an approved Adoption Request. Scheduled Meet & Greet events, informational booths and other rescue events have been cancelled due to COVID in the Oklahoma City area.

More about this rescue

The Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma (PAWS-OK) is a non-profit pet rescue founded in 2008 and focused on finding homeless and abandoned cats new loving homes. Most of our cats are surrendered to us by people who can no longer care for their pets or who find themselves the caretaker of a neighborhood cat and / or kittens.

PAWS cats are suitable as house cats / family members only. Many of our adult cats have been family pets all their lives and the kittens we have are fostered in family homes and socialized as house pets. Most are dog friendly and wouldn't recognize a potential outside threat if it announced itself. All our cats are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, fully vaccinated, fostered in a home setting and checked by a veterinarian before adoption.

We are a small, all volunteer group whose goal is to match responsible owners with the right pet. When our cats don't fit an adopters specific needs we can provide them with information on appropriate pets available from other local rescues/organizations or individuals. We are also happy to advise anyone who is looking for a specific type of pet (breed of dog or possibly declawed cat) or looking to re-home their own pet or a stray that they have found.

We also seek to educate the public on the current Oklahoma animal welfare laws and urge everyone to communicate with their elected officials to encourage their support for animal friendly legislation.

And of course, we support all the spay and neuter efforts of our counterparts and other organizations. The greatest impact to our city's pet overpopulation issue and the resulting alarmingly high rate of euthanasia at our local shelters will only be reduced through spay and neuter programs. If you are looking for a low cost option for spaying or neutering your pet, please click on "Links" at http://pawsok.com for information on low cost services in your area.

PAWS-OK is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) designated organization and does not receive any public funding. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Every dollar raised by PAWS through adoption fees, donations and fundraising events is used to support our programs.
