Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Honey's success story has been a long and winding journey — from being a pregnant, feral dog running wild in rural Mississippi, to being cared for by a loving young woman who undertook a frantic search to find a rescue that would receive and treat a heartworm positive dog. And Pet the Pet Program said yes. After three months of treatment, this incredible dog has received the "all clear" from her veterinarian and we are offering her for adoption.
Honey is a 50-lb spayed female, up-to-date on vaccinations, and is about 1.5-2 years old. She is a loving, loyal, comical, and sweet girl with a little bit of attitude. Honey is crate trained, housetrained, and walks on a lead nicely. She is dog friendly and playful with both dogs and humans. Honey will need a home where there is another dog for company — she is calm when there is another dog present but has separation issues when left alone.
Honey has a strong prey drive and therefore needs to be in a cat-free household. She is extremely athletic and able to clear a 4-ft fence without difficulty so she will need an enclosure that is escape proof when out of doors. She would make a super sport dog with her athleticism.
Despite her rough early months, Honey’s temperament is one of kindness and love. She endured her painful heartworm treatments without reacting aggressively toward anyone working with her. She is still a bit reserved with new people, but warms up to women quickly.
Honey's adoption fee is $400.00 and includes her spay, vaccinations, and deworming. Our adoption procedure for an approved application requires a telephone interview, meet/greet, home visit, and vet reference. We limit our adoptions to a 50-mile radius of Ithaca, NY. For an online adoption application, please email Pet the Pet Program at reverence@ottcmail.com. If you contact us and have not received a response within 24 hours, please check your spam.
We are NYS Rescue049.
