My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Evander
Breeds: Big Bully Type Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large

Life on the streets is hard! Just ask Evander (Van) about his street time. Van came into foster with many many stitches from some kind of altercation - probably an animal attack. Most of his cuts and scrapes are all healed up and all of his stitches are out. He does still have a ragged ear (hence the name “Evander” for Evander Holyfield). He doesn’t let it dampen his spirit, however, and remains the friendliest guy around. He gets along great with other dogs, cats, and any other animals that he comes across. Although he is such a people person, he would be fine on his own as well.

He loves to participate in whatever you happen to be doing. Sweeping the floor? Let me stand in the way. Moving the car? Let me stand in the way. Hauling garden stuff with the 4-wheeler? Let me stand in the way. OH were you walking here? Let me stand in the way! (Are you sensing a pattern?). He really enjoys being wherever the action is and gets excited when we go out to do yardwork. He is fine on the leash, but also does well off leash. He sticks around because he doesn’t want to miss out on any action. He also has excellent recall and returns immediately when called.

He is pretty quiet in the house. Loves to cuddle into a doggie bed or on the couch and snooze away during the work day. He has been crated and settled after a bit of whining and barking, but he honestly doesn’t need it. He is reliably house trained, even when off schedule or left alone and isn’t much of a chewer, although he does like the odd dog chew.

So what is the downside with this guy? The slobber. He is a bit of a drooler and likes to spread it around. He also snores. Loudly. He also fancies himself a lapdog and loves to cuddle in with his foster dad in his favorite chair. He also snuggles quite hard in bed - which can be rough with the summer months ahead. He can also be a bit touchy about his food, but trust is growing and he is getting better all the time.

If you are looking for an excellent addition to your family or if you are a single person looking for a friend to hang out with, then contact us about Vander!
