My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Kane 6800 is a two-year-old German Shepherd that was rescued from a shelter. Kane is your typical spunky, playful, energetic and people-pleasing shepherd who loves to be right next to his humans at all times. You'll never have to make a trip to the bathroom or clean the house without a pup shadow again! Kane is potty trained and sleeps through the night beside our bed. We leave Kane in a gated living room with access to lots of toys and a window view while we're at work. He is still a puppy in a big boy's body, so he needs a moderate amount of exercise and mental stimulation. We are working on walking nicely on the leash and confidence out in the real world. Kane does settle out after exercise and LOVES to cuddle on the couch for our morning coffee. He is a smart dog that knows a few commands and is eager to learn more! Kane rides well in the car, doesn't mind being groomed, and is very gentle when taking treats. His favorite pastime is playing outside when it's not too hot!

Kane does need very slow introductions to new people. We're unsure of what may have happened in his past life, but he has a good bit of stranger danger. Once he warms up to you, he will be asking for belly rubs non-stop, but patience is key!

Kane wants to be #besties with our grumpy older resident shepherd, but doesn't pick up on her body language when she says "please leave me alone!!". We have to intervene when he becomes too much for her. He did well playing with other outgoing dogs that matched his energy while boarded, but was too energetic for the small dogs on the property. Proper introductions should help to make sure he's a good match for another dog!

Kane would do well in a family that can dedicate time and patience to training him to be a confident dog out in the world! In return, he will give endless love and loyalty - he really attaches to his humans and loves them hard. Kane will not do well with children under 14, or in a house that has lots of people coming and going. He also has a hungry eye for small critters in the backyard, so no cats for him!

Kane has so much love to give and is looking for his perfect family to bring him home! If you're interested or would like to know more about this sweet boy, please email us at thestruthersfosters@gmail.com

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

An applicant first submits an application form with a non-refundable $10.00 (cash or check only) processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 (cash or check ONLY) minimum adoption donation to VGSR to help defray the costs of getting the dog fully vetted and ready to be adopted, and the adoption is completed.

More about this rescue

We provide a valuable service by finding good homes for the German Shepherd Dogs in our care. In the seven plus years that we have been in existence, we have found homes for over 2,400 deserving dogs. We are currently enlisting active volunteers to help with the task of placing some really wonderful, but homeless, German Shepherd Dogs. Our goal is to place all GSDs that are accepted into our Rescue in loving homes in which the GSD and the family will thrive together.
