My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Speedy is such a wonderful dog. He’s very affectionate and really loves being around his people. He’s house trained, which makes him a great companion for any household.

Speedy is a relaxed loose leash walker, so he’s easy to handle during walks. He enjoys exploring his surroundings without pulling too much, which makes for a pleasant time together.

He loves to play fetch! Speedy gets really excited about chasing after balls and brings them back for more. He also enjoys treats, which is always a bonus for training or just rewarding him for being such a good boy!

Speedy is dog social, so he gets along well with other dogs. He enjoys their company and loves to play with them, making him a great addition to a multi-dog household.

Speedy is pretty laid back. He loves to lounge around and relax with his people. He’s the kind of dog that’s happy just being by your side, whether it’s cuddling on the couch or lounging in the sun.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
