Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Shy, reserved, yet very independent, our Mr. Cooper is an interesting pup. He is a beautiful, rich mahogany color, with black, button-like eyes. He is a seasoned boy, at the ripe age of nine, though you could never tell by how active he is. He enjoys exploring the yards, using his houndy nose to pick up all kinds of scents. He has been in multiple playgroups with some of our other canine friends, and has done exceedingly well. Though he may not be the most playful, having a buddy walk around and enjoy the outdoors with, brings a smile to his face. When he is back from play dates, or walks with volunteers, Cooper likes to curl up on his cushy bed and take a well deserved nap, well, after he eats his snack. He can be slightly picky when it comes to food, and will let you know he doesn't care for something, by pushing it out of the food bowl. Treats never seem to be an issue, no matter what kind they are.
Cooper was one of the lucky dogs who got to ride out Hurricane Milton in a "hurricane foster home" and this is what his temporary foster dad had to say about him: "It was a pleasure fostering Cooper during Milton's onslaught. I especially appreciated how tenderly he took treats off my fingers. He possesses a regal, though also humble bearing, that we enjoyed having around the house. I never heard him bark."
Cooper is a very sweet old man, who has been through so much, even just here at Satchel's. He would love a warm, caring home to retire in, with people who adore him for the silly pup that he is. If you are interested in meeting this fine, seasoned hound, please submit an adoption application at Satchelslastresort.org (no commitment).

More about this rescue
Satchel's Last Resort is a no-kill animal shelter/sanctuary whose mission is to Rescue, Rehab and Rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go because of breed, behavior or medical issues.
Each resident that comes to Satchel’s has its own unique and personal history. We get to know each one individually – favorite toy, favorite game, favorite foods. The dogs are housed in an airy shelter with spacious kennels, take three or four romps in the playard or walks per day, and even take car rides to let their fur flap in the wind. Cats are housed in two open cat room settings and receive social interaction with staff and volunteers every day. Most important to us -- we keep our dogs and cats safe from other residents and from humans who may want to harm them.
Trainers work with the dogs a few times a week to teach them that they can trust humans and other animals. Staff and volunteers work with our cats to keep them socialized or help them learn to trust again. We actively seek forever homes tailored to the needs of every individual pet so that they can live the rest of their lives among a family of their own.
At Satchel’s Last Resort, we believe that by harnessing the unconditional love that the dogs and cats in our sanctuary put forth everyday, the world becomes a brighter place for animals and people. Each and everyday we try to give a little of their love back – back to the pets and back to our community.
