BIO Update (9/10/2024):  Pebbles has been with us for a month now, and she is wonderful.  She is sweet and cuddly and absolutely thrives on attention and play. This little lady loves to snuggle and give kisses.

It did not take her very long to warm up to us. She loved us girls from the start but the guys, not so much.  She was a bit skeptical of my husband for two or three days as well as my daughter’s boyfriend but that has gone away.  Pebbles has fallen right into our family routine.  She sleeps in her crate in my bedroom without any issues.

After about a week with us she found her voice. She barks at chipmunks and squirrels, but not really at anything else.  She has a VERY high prey drive, which makes leash walking a high-level exercise activity.  We are working on that but it has not been easy.  She walks nicely until she sees a squirrel, chipmunk, bunny, or bird, then she’s in hunter mode, and she’s strong.  If people are outside in their yards, she stops to stare at them and refuses to move.  She doesn’t bark or growl, just stares.  I told her we look like weirdos when she does that, but she doesn’t seem to care.  Lol.  Other times she gets fixated on a scent and won’t move. She walks 1/2 a mile 3 times a day - morning, afternoon, and evening along with shorter walks.  She doesn’t like to potty in the yard but rather take care of her business when she’s walking.

Everyone who meets her loves Pebbles, but she is not fond of little kids. They really make her uncomfortable. She doesn’t show aggression, but I can feel and see her tense up when she is around them.

Pebbles has done lots of local car trips and travels well in the car. We have a pen area set up for her in the house for long stretches of time alone. When we’re home, we leave the door open and she goes in there on her own.  We allow her run of the 1st floor of the house when we are home. She is also allowed on the furniture with us and is learning to use her ramps.

Pebbles is very energetic and so much fun!! She especially likes playing with her bunny toy. She’s not a fan of chasing balls, though. She does a happy dance when she sees any of us and then zooms around in circles.  This girl is a special little lady!

BIO:   Pebbles came from North Carolina when her owner had to move and could not take her dogs with her. Pebbles was scared when she first came to the rescue, but within a day, she was happy and running around with her tail up, one happy little girl. When she knows you, she is happy to greet you as you come in the door with her tail wagging. It will take a little time for her to warm up to strangers.

Right now, we are feeding her food without chicken or chicken by-products because we think she may have a food allergy to chicken. That is the only issue we see with this sweet girl.

Our must-haves for beautiful Pebbles include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who could be home a lot would be good for her; no more than 4-6 hours for the new owner to be gone
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos (anything with shared walls) for possible barking and bothering the neighbors
  • Needs to be the only dog because she likes all the attention

If you meet these requirements, then please go to our website and complete our online adoption application.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All dogs are spayed/neutered/UTD on all shots/heartworm checked and treated if necessary and dental if necessary.
You do have to fill out an online adoption application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org and we will do a phone interview, check your references and vet and we WILL DO a homevisit no matter what state you are in. To adopt a dachshund you must either have a fenced in yard. These are hunters and if you allow them to run free they will NOT come back or will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog. When you adopt the dog you are giving a two week trail period and if you feel you need more time we are happy to give that to you if you will notify us. We also make you sign a contract that is a legal and binding contract. Once you put in a application to adopt one of our fosters we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us in a week please e mail us as your app may have gotten lost. We also have the right to refuse to adopt to anyone that we feel would not make a good home for our Dachshunds. Please remember these dogs have been in at least 2-3 homes possible more and it could take the whole two weeks for them to adjust and possibly longer.

Go meet their pets

All of our dogs are in foster homes in TN, AL, NY, VA, PA, NC, SC, FL, MI and WI They can not be seen at any one place but all foster homes are happy to send you additional pictures or answer any questions you may have in regards to their fosters. We do not have any regular place that we go to to show off our dogs but if you are close to the foster home we will be glad to meet you somewhere to show you a or any dogs that you may be interested in once you fill out our online adoption application listed on our website.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit organization that rescues dachshunds from shelters, owner surrenders and fully vets them including dental and heartworm treated if needed and all health issues addressed before they are put on the website to be adopted. We do this due to the fact that there are so many Dachshunds out there that are bred and brought by people that don't know the breed and after they get the dog home and find out after a couple of months that they can't housebreak the dog and it's not good with their kids, they dump the dog in the shelters or if we are lucky they contacts us. Some Dachshund are not so lucky and get shifted to several homes or are sold to puppymills that bred them into the groud.
