I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!
Brooke arrived at the clinic in lower Alabama in early June with the second group of seven Goldens relinquished by a puppy mill/dog breeder from Mississippi. Brooke was rather timid when she first arrived, like many breeder dogs who have been under-socialized. In fact, she hardly moved upon arrival at the clinic the first couple of days. Of all the dogs relinquished by the MS breeder, she was the most shutdown. She barely made eye contact and it was heartbreaking to see how resigned and depressed she was. Slowly, she has learned she’s safe in her surroundings, and, she has remembered how to play! She loves to run around the yard and even looks a little sly when playing “tag” with Tillie. In true Brooke fashion, she remains even-tempered and dignified, even when Tillie topples her!
By far, of all the dogs rescued from Mississippi, Miss Brooke enjoys her treats the most. Her face lights up and she happily munches on biscuits and cookies! With patience, dedication, and unconditional love, Brooke will rebound (she’s already on her way) and will truly learn to trust people. Once she gets adjusted to her new home, she will know what it’s like to feel peace at last, and joy is sure to follow. (And, then, oh happy day: a wagging tail!)
Having resident dogs to learn from is hugely beneficial as a retired breeder dog will generally feel more comfortable with another dog, and just seeing how the other dog interacts with humans. They can follow their lead on going potty, going up and down stairs, going for a walk, coming in from outside, and vice versa. A confident and calm canine companion is a requirement for Brooke's forever home along with a fenced yard.
Brooke arrived at her foster home in MA in late July. Her foster mom shares, "Brooke has really opened up over the weekend, she’s wagging her tail and seems quite happy. Having another animal around would be good for her. She enjoys playing with her foster dog sibling. Brooke is so snuggly – she also likes to sit under the table or on the dog bed, she needs her safe spots, but will run to you to be petted. She eats and drinks well. They don’t love to be hosed off but she is good about it. Drying her off and having her ears cleaned was not a problem. No fear of water- she jumped right in the spring."
Brooke is around 1 year old and is good with other dogs. Brooke weighs about 58 lbs and enjoys her treats. She keeps her kennels clean and only goes "potty" when let out in the yard. She is micro-chipped, spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. She was given a Proheart 6 injection that provides 6 months of heartworm prevention. It's time for Brooke to know about all the good life has to offer.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
