My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Abby ended up at a high-kill shelter because her owner was moving. She seemed confused and depressed. The shelter volunteers quickly figured out that she was deaf.

But that didn't slow Abby down. She enjoyed getting out into the shelter's play yard and interacting with other dogs. And she loved getting baths!

But a deaf dog shouldn't be in the shelter for 8 months. So Outta the Cage rescued her, and she is now in a foster home enjoying her walks and waiting for her forever family.

Abby is a 4-year-old bull terrier mix. She is an active girl who would do well in a home with a yard, older kids, and other calm dogs. A neighborhood walk twice a day would suit her fine. She loves to smell all the smells!

And, of course, she won't be the one barking during fireworks or when your gardener comes. She's house trained, crate trained, and learning sign language. Please contact us to come and meet her.

Most of our fosters and adopters see our dogs on social media or on our website, but we also network the dogs via other platforms and attend adoption events.

If you live in the L.A. area we are happy to bring the dog to you or, if it is in training, visit our trainer to get to know the dog. We want to make the adoption process seamless and informative!

More about this rescue

Outta the Cage began when a group of technology professionals began volunteering at high-kill shelters. This grass roots effort – and the resulting data – taught us a lot about successful tactics for getting shelter animals adopted. Our mission at Outta the Cage is to get shelter animals seen as individuals in order to find them forever homes.

We go to shelters to video animals (mainly dogs), getting them “outta the cage” and into open areas and play yards. We share the resulting videos on social media and enlist the community to help spread the word. Because we’re data geeks, we also provide networking best practices, offering field-proven tips for optimal advocacy, networking, animal profiling, and post-adopting integration.

Outta the Cage rescues senior, medical, large breed, and long-term stay dogs from high-kill southern California shelters.

These dogs are often overlooked by potential adopters but, through targeted networking, video sharing, and subsidized adoption fees, we can help them become wonderful forever family members!
