My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Have you ever felt SOOOO happy you ran around with your favorite toy, laughing as loud as you could, hugging everyone you came in contact with and just feeling so lucky to be alive?! Well, my soon-to-be best friends, this is how I live every, single day! My name is Amaya, and I'm a 3-year-old, 60-ish pound Lab mix with a zest for life that is unrivaled. I greet each morning with enthusiasm, joy and curiosity. It is impossible to be around me and not feel happier. I haven't had an easy road, and yet I remain playful and full of hope. I LOVE toys, especially those that squeak and those I can shake and tug. I am housebroken and crate trained, and I am good with other dogs, although I'm a bit too playful for older or shy dogs and most cats. I just started basic training, and I'm already rocking most basic commands. I am proving to be super intelligent and eager to please. I am working on impulse control because - hello, have you met many labs? WE LOVE EVERYTHING!!! I am a bit clingy because I've been abandoned a few times, so when I find a human who gives me love and walks, I get attached pretty quickly. I'd love an active human or pack who needs an adventure buddy, a cuddle companion or just a general all-around delightful pup.

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. ALL CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
