In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!
Loki is a mellow one year old boy who lives up to his name, as he is mischievous and very curious. Loki weighs about 10 pounds and is mainly white with light tan ears and light spots on his back. He came into rescued after being neglected quite a bit and it was necessary to shave him down to remove the mats in his hair. But when his hair grows out, it will be beautiful and he’s going to be so handsome. He is very loving and wants to snuggle, but is initially awkward about being picked up, and sticks his front legs out to the side. But he enjoys being held and presses his face against yours or into your neck. He likes his Shih Tzu foster sister, and often snuggles up with her and sometimes grooms her. Loki is very vocal, but not a barker. He’s trying to communicate, and he has different kinds of whines and his foster parents are just starting to understand what he’s trying to say. He hasn’t played much with toys, but may not have had them in his previous life. But he’s always ready to play and interact with you.
Loki loves to be outside for walks and be outdoors with you. He enjoys meeting new people, but is still learning how to interact with new dogs. So his adopters will need to continue working on his walking manners. He also does not like getting wet and bath time is a challenge.
Loki would do well as an only dog or with other small dogs and in a family where there is someone home most of the time or be able to take him with them. He may be a little anxious when his people aren’t around and would do best in a house where he would not be left alone for long or extended periods.
He really wants to please and will be easy to train. Loki is working on his house training, and his new family must be patient and continue to take him out on a frequent, regular schedule.
Loki is a very sweet boy who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements for his new family:
1. An active family that take him on long daily walks and make him a part of their life.
2. Because Loki is only one year old and Shih Tzus can easily live 16+ years, we will only consider age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life.
3. His family must continue to work on his house training and leash walking. Because Loki loves being outdoors, a fenced yard would be wonderful, but is not a deal breaker.
4. Loki would do well in a home with another small dog who will help him learn by being a role model and friend. However, he would also be okay as an only dog.
5. A family that works from home or is home most of the day would be ideal for Loki.
6. A family with children over the age of ten will be considered if they have experience with small dogs and know how to gently interact with them.
7. Loki will want to sleep in bed with his new family as he loves to cuddle and be close to his humans.
8. Loki’s new family should live within the 30 miles of Shoreview, MN and commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September.
We understand there are quite a few requirements for Loki’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this cute, funny, quirky boy.
Loki will be neutered on July 25th. Adoption applications are being accepted and reviewed now, so that he can go to his new family shortly after his neuter. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 sales tax for a total of $455.81.
To meet Loki, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Petco Southtown in Bloomington.
