My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Irene!

She is a 7 year old Shar Pei mix who weighs 28 pounds. Irene is a sensitive lady who definitely takes her time getting to know new people. She is still very nervous with staff and isn't quite ready to snuggle up with anyone yet, but she is a master of relaxation! As you can see from her adorable pictures she is always ready to snuggle up on her bed for an afternoon nap.

Irene loves being outside and enjoys soaking in all of the smells for the day. She isn't too strong and walks well on a leash, although she is spooked by loud noises so she prefers to walk in a quieter environment. Since she is such a sensitive girl, she would prefer an adult only home where she has plenty of time to come out of her shell. Irene shows potential with another dog and may really enjoy living in a home with another laid back dog that can give her the confidence to explore the world around her. She is an adorable girl who can't wait to find a family to call her own!

If Irene looks like the perfect girl for you, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about her and schedule a time to come in and meet!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.
