My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Handsome, friendly, easy-going

Goldie is a handsome creamsicle kitty. He's so long-legged, lanky and easy-going that you can almost see him wearing a cowboy hat and saying "Howdy ma'am" in a slow sugar-sweet Texas drawl.

He's a friendly, curious guy who loves to explore. He requests energetic play sessions each morning, and sometimes gallops around for no apparent reason other than the pure joy of it. He's surprisingly playful and kittenish for a senior cat.

Though he doesn't generally seek out pets, he really enjoys being petted when he's in the mood for it. He'll lean into your hand and almost pet himself on your hand. He'll even roll over for a brief tummy rub. He can become over-stimulated by too much petting in too many places, so he's not the best fit for a home with small kids. He recently started sitting on his foster's lap and clearly enjoys that too.

Goldie came to APA with a history of pododermatitis, also known as "pillow foot". Pododermatitis is a rare condition in which the immune system attacks the footpads. This causes ulcers and scabs on the paw pads, which can result in limping, pain and self-trauma to paws. We surgically removed the ulcerated mass on his foot and he has healed well. He is still taking an easy medication to help with any discomfort. Pillow foot can recur so Goldie's person will need to keep an eye on his paws for any ulcers, swelling, mass, discomfort, and seek veterinary treatment.

Goldie also has an age-related tooth fracture, but it is not bothering him and he doesn't need any treatment at this time. Goldie's person will need to watch for any signs of oral pain such as drooling, pawing at the mouth, crying while eating, or refusal to eat, and seek veterinary treatment.

Goldie would be a great fit in a calm home with someone who will give him space when he wants it, and give him affection and play sessions when he needs them. We have a feeling that, as he becomes more and more comfortable in a home, he'll become even more affectionate.

All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
