My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gustov! Gustov was found wandering as a pup, he was taken in by our rescue and has been loving foster life ever since! He is a full of energy and loves to play tug-of-war and going for walks. Gustov can also be known as "Mr. Handsome". He is a beautiful chocolate color with white accents. He has the most amazing green eyes. Also, have you seen those ears? Need we say more?

This little one is a special boy who needs a special home. Gustov is young, between 6-8 months old, and he's been in our rescue since mid-April. In that time, he's been working on figuring out the world, which hasn't been kind to him. One of the worst things is a puppy who doesn't feel safe, so that's how things started with Gus. Thankfully, he is making amazing progress every day in his foster home!

He's developed a true introverted lifestyle, but once he feels safe, he is good. Gus is the best, but he is fearful of kids and their unpredictable movements, so he would do best in a home without children. We have faith that he will continue to grow out of his fears (with positive training, nose work classes, and consistency), but as a rescue we cannot keep him forever as he works on this. He's gotten so far with his fosters, but his true learning will be with his forever people, so he is learning with them. Because of that, while we are looking for a forever home for Gus, we are also looking for someone interested in the bonding experience of training. We will provide classes and private lessons with his adoption so he can grow the way we hope for him! Gus loves dogs! He can match play style and be vocal if the other dog is, too but he's learned what signals mean "back off" and when to stop which is fantastic! Gus loves to lead and take charge! He is always grabbing toys and bringing his foster sisters in on the games.

Gus is so smart, and he will sit, stay and lay down. He really is motivated to do anything for food. He also is described as a perfect angel in the crate! Gus would be a great dog for a single person or couple who likes to take their dog along on adventures. He is a total goofball and loves the sprinkler and hose. Three words to describe Gus? Playful, loyal, and watchful! Looking for a playful cuddle bug to complete your home? More about this rescue

Players for Pits is a 501c3, non profit rescue that connects professional athletes to the community in order to come together to take a stand against the abuse and neglect of animals. PFP serves the western suburbs of Chicago and is a foster based rescue, so the dogs in our care are in foster homes learning the basics of being a well balanced dog versus being in cages at loud boarding facilities.

The athletes involved in our rescue actively support the rescue efforts and help by spreading the word of dogs in need. It is the mission of Players for Pits to educate dog owners about proper pet care - both physical and mental - so that the dogs in our care can be happy, well balanced members of society. It is our goal to rescue dogs from high kill shelters and place them into loving homes in the suburbs. At Players for Pits we stand up for pit bulls, who's character is routinely tarnished and often misrepresented. We recognize the pit bull for what it is: a DOG. And any dog with the right care and owners can be a wonderful pet. While we are an advocate for pit bulls, we do not discriminate based on breed and will take in other breeds if they need you help. Players for Pits is also very active in the community and we co-host clinics to help struggling families maintain their pets health, we train pit bull type dogs to become therapy dogs for children with abusive backgrounds, and we try to involve the community in our goal to reduce pet abandonment.
