My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tennessee, a stunning 9-month-old pit bull with a big personality to match his 38-pound, sturdy frame. Tennessee is smart, loving, and full of energy. He's got all the traits of a classic young bully breed-strong-willed, eager to play, and full of life! He needs a committed, experienced owner who understands the needs of a high-energy, confident dog.

What Makes Tennessee Special:

Energetic Playful Spirit: Tennessee loves playing with toys and enjoys rough-and-tumble play with other dogs, which can sometimes be too much for dogs who prefer gentler play.

Leash Socialization in Progress: He's working on his leash manners, especially around other dogs. Tennessee can become overly excited on leash, so we recommend introductions while walking side-by-side, which he's improving at with practice.

Sweet and Snuggly: He may have a big personality, but Tennessee is a cuddle bug at heart and loves snuggling up with his people.

Kid-Friendly, With Guidance: He's good with calm, supervised children. However, he can get too excited and mouthy around high-energy kids, so he's not ideal for families with very young children.

If you're ready for a loyal, lively companion and can provide the guidance Tennessee needs, he'll reward you with endless love and affection.

Tennessee is neutered and up to date on vaccines.

This dog's adoption fee is $450.

***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs....all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many!

Puppies require an adopter who is home a good part of the day to continue their training! They are up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines and preventatives.

Freckles Foundation & Animal Rescue cannot guarantee the exact age or breed of any animal in our care. The age and breed listed are based on information we may have been provided, and the appearance of the animal.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption coordinators have conversations each applicant to ensure a good match for the pet and person/family, perform vet checks if there are current pets. Adopters must come to either the foster home or an event to meet the pet. If the dog/cat is too young to be altered, a deposit is taken and our spay/neuter coordinator follows up ensuring the procedure is done. Below is our link to our dog application. We also have a cat application but there is only space for 1 link.

We are a foster-based rescue. We will hold adoption events at local pet stores, community events, and vet offices.

More about this rescue

A kitten named Freckles, who was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), and a desire to help more at-risk cats and dogs find forever homes, were the catalyst that ignited Athena Reizakis to start Freckles Foundation & Animal Rescue. While our main mission is to place animals in need in loving homes, we also place a special emphasis on the “underdog.” We will not let age or a medical diagnosis, such as FIP or heartworm, be a barrier in giving that animal the chance at the life they so deserve.

Freckles Foundation & Animal Rescue, founded in December of 2023, is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are a foster-based rescue with a volunteer network spanning across Maryland, DC, and Virginia. We are committed to creating awareness within the communities we serve and working towards the best interest of the animals in our care. It is not just about finding homes for pets in need but finding a home that is right for them.

Freckles Foundation works with shelters, other rescue groups, community organizations, and individuals to identify cats and dogs in need of rescue. Once in our care we provide these animals with necessary veterinary care and a loving, nurturing foster home until they are adopted. Cats and dogs receive vaccinations, preventatives, and spay/neuter (if age appropriate) prior to adoption. Our rescues are cared for in our network of volunteer foster homes and provided with food, shelter, socialization, training, and other necessary care while awaiting adoption.

We are funded solely by donations and adoption fees. We are 100% volunteer-based currently.
