My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please meet Amtrak! This very affectionate and gentle cat loves time with humans, whether it is receiving pets, getting picked up, or sitting on a lap. When he is with his human, he could not be happier! Although his name is synonymous with a moving train, don't let that fool you. He is usually very laid back and easy going! Sometimes it takes him a little time to warm up to new people, but when he does, he quickly shares his affectionate side, curling up and napping on his human's lap. His foster parent shared that he "blossomed in the few days he's been with me. I can't believe how his true personality emerged so quickly. Amtrak is extremely loving, trusting and will be a loyal companion.

From time to time, Amtrak will take a break from pets and cuddles to share his playful, curious side, and have a meal. Some of his favorite toys include wand toys with ribbons, a laser mouse, and catnip mice. Amtrak enjoys exploring, as well as watching bird videos (he hasn't ventured to windows yet so just birds on TV for now!). When he is curious about sounds outside his home, he'll make a cute growl sound to ask, "What's that noise?. All of this love, playfulness, and curiosity definitely produces a hearty appetite, and in line with his love for humans, his favorite mealtimes are when his humans are nearby.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the Chicagoland area dedicated to preventing, and alleviating the suffering caused by abuse, neglect, and overpopulation. We help dogs and cats mentally and physically heal, and give them a chance to find love, a full life, and a forever home.

Our focus is on rescuing orphaned neonatal kittens, nursing kittens with their feral mothers, under-socialized cats, and dogs who have been at Chicago Animal Care and Control for too long. We see ourselves as the crossing guards for these vulnerable animals, helping them get from their past, whether that be from a traumatic home, a kennel, or a euthanasia list, to a safe and kind human who will love them.
