My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Monty the black lab mix that identifies as a couch hog. She is an older girl that is little down on her luck and is looking for a brighter future filled with pup cups and car rides. After being attacked by 2 other family dogs, her previous family decided to surrender her for her wellbeing. In her foster home, she has shown no fear or aggression towards the dogs, cats, chickens or ducks. Monty does get antsy about thunderstorms. She truly just wants to be around people, not food aggressive but she does enjoy her treats which she takes gently. She is 9 years young but still has some spring in her step. Monty is kennel trained but does not need to be kenneled because she behaves pretty darn perfectly.

More about this rescue

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). Visit our website to learn more about us at heartofamericahs.org.
