My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tonic, a resilient and spirited canine with a heart as big as his paws. Despite facing adversity, Tonic's unwavering spirit shines through. He arrived at our veterinary clinic, teetering on the brink of euthanasia, not because of any wrongdoing, but due to housing restrictions that prohibited large or bully breeds. His owner's heartache became our opportunity to give Tonic a second chance.

For the past four months, Tonic has graced our clinic with his joyful presence. The staff has grown fond of this lovable boy, but they recognize that he yearns for more-a spacious home where he can stretch his legs, chase after tennis balls, and bask in the sun. Tonic's zest for life is contagious, and he deserves a family who can match his enthusiasm.

Now, let's address the elephant in the room: heartworm disease. Tonic wasn't initially on preventive medication, and unfortunately, he tested positive. But fear not! Since joining our care, Tonic has diligently taken Nexguard Plus monthly, and he remains symptom-free. Our dedicated veterinary team is committed to helping him recover fully. We're even willing to negotiate a reduced rate for the immiticide injection-a crucial step in treating heartworms-should a compassionate rescue or adopter step forward.

Tonic's sweet nature and resilience have won us over, and we believe he'll do the same for his forever family. Let's find this deserving boy the world he so eagerly awaits!

Tonic is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

Additional adoption info

Adopting from The Love Pit means gaining a family member. It means gaining a network of pit bull advocates, ready to support you and provide you with all of the resources we can. Most importantly, adopting from The Love Pit saves lives. When you adopt, you're saving the life of your own dog, opening space in their foster home for another shelter dog in need, and creating space in the shelter kennel for a dog whose life would have otherwise been on the line. Your thanks for all the good you've done? Lots of love and pit bull kisses to enjoy for years to come.

Go meet their pets

We have monthly adoption events at different locations in Dallas and Fort Worth which are announced on our social media pages and will also be posted on our website.

We will also set up an appointment with you to meet the dog of your choosing.

More about this rescue

We are a foster/volunteer based 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue in Dallas, Texas. Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless pit bull type dogs in shelters and on the streets through rescue, rehabilitation, education, and advocacy.

Our goal is to educate the public about a breed that often falls victim to breed specific legislation, discrimination, and cruelty and promote responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter initiatives, vaccinations, and training resources.
