Meet Carter!
He is currently our LONGEST canine resident. In our care since June 2024. As much as we love all of our animals in our care, seeing Carter “live” here for this long is so very heartbreaking. He just needs someone to give him a chance!
Carter is a 2.5 year old, 75# mixed breed dog - likely an American Pitbull Terrier - Shepherd mix.
He loves to play ball! Carter gets the zoomies when playing in our big back yard! He is athletic and loves going on walks!
The way to his heart is treats! He sits very nicely for them!
Carter is great with women, he is the most comfortable around them; as he can a bit untrusting with some men we have found. We think it may have to do with his past. He needs time, patience and reassurance that it will be ok. He does fine with older kids, but is nervous around small toddlers and babies.
Carter was originally found in an abandoned house before he came to FCAC in June. He had been locked in a crate for 3 weeks - with no food or water!
Carter did come in with two medium sized dogs and he gets along good with some of our other dogs here at FCAC as well! He was introduced to cats and knows they are a no no! Carter backs away if they confront him and knows they are off limits!
Neutered, heartworm negative, current on vaccines and on monthly prevention. ~ $0 ADOPTION FEE
** He did initially test positive for Lyme Disease and we treated him with a month long treatment of Doxycycline and he has received his yearly Lyme Vaccine. Lyme disease is not contagious - it is spread from an infected tick biting the dog. It is recommended he receive a Lyme Vaccine yearly and be kept on tick/flea prevention year round.
If you are interested in meeting and adopting, please submit an application in person or here: https://www.fultoncoanimalcenter.org/application-to-adopt-a-dog
Once submitted our staff will review and then contact you to set up a meet & greet! Any other dogs in the home must come for the meet & greet as well! If it's a match, he can go home on the same day.
