My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It gets said often about dogs, but Onyx here is truly the ultimate cuddle bug! This is a sweet girl who absolutely adores people and melts right into your arms for love. Onyx is a gentle, lover girl, with an easy-going temperament. I suspect this is a dog that is going to fall hard and fast for her people. You can see the love and loyalty waiting in her eyes.

Onyx is estimated to be 3 years old so her energy level is calm and confident. When introduced to other dogs, she was an aloof companion, happy to enjoy their company but not the playful type. Truthfully, it is because her love and affection is directed at people. She worked the play-yard, making sure to greet everyone and get a little love. She approaches meeting new people with loving confidence and her signature move, the big roll-over. She is going to roll right over on her back and offer her belly for rubs as a sign that she likes you.

On leash, Onyx heels beautifully and is easily corrected, making her a great partner for evening walks or to help you get your steps in. All the new scenery and smells once she is home, will allow you to work together on leash skills as she will likely be so excited that her best skills will be momentarily set aside. A handful of treats and gentle reminders will go a long way with Onyx.

An ideal home for Onyx would include plenty of adventures! She is eager to be by your side and hasn’t experienced any of the best things out there, so she is going to love the world you invite her to join. Hikes, farmers markets, corner cafes, beaches, breweries, literally anywhere and everywhere you will get to see the magic in her eyes for an exciting new experience.
Other pets are welcome, cat or dog! A perfect dog for Onyx would be a laidback boy who is friendly but doesn’t need a bouncing playmate to be satisfied.Once she is home she may show a playful side but my nature Onyx is a low-key girl, snuggles and such are more her speed.

If you're looking for a loving, confident, and easy-going companion who loves to cuddle, Onyx is your girl. She’s ready to find her forever home where she can shower her humans with love and get all the belly rubs she desires. Onyx may be the perfect fit for you and yours.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
