My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. Those emails will get the quickest response, we do the best we can, but if we have to follow up with an email asking you about yourself and waiting for a response, well, we have already moved on to the next email that has provided the details. We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! :

His real name is Shiitake, you know, like the mushroom. We did not name him, he was given that moniker at the animal control that took him in. But, it is a cutesy name for a very cute boy, he is our little mushroom! The fungus amongus. We just call him "Taki" for short. (we pronounce it Tocky).

Taki is the latest of many, many dogs that we have taken in that have been picked up as strays. Pretty sad, and how scary for those dogs to be on their own after having a family, and surely someone that loved them. Taki seems that he must have had a person or family that cared. He is sweet, playful, housebroken and listens very well.

He was found by a family that took him in and thought they would just keep him, Why not, he is a gorgeous boy, very young and lovable. But, he was left alone with a 1 year old, who knows what happened(or why a 1 year old child was left alone with a strange dog??). But, apparently the child was nipped. Nothing serious, but that was the end of that, probably a good thing tho!

After his stint at animal control, Taki came to us. He was a little nervous at first but has totally settled into our home, gets along great with the other dogs and is an old pro at sharing his bed, toys, and treats. He is quite the love bug and enjoys kisses and snuggling, and adores being outside any chance he can. We have a little doggy pool and he is the only one that wanted to go lay in it, bless his heart!! I was waiting for someone to really enjoy that thing.

Taki is just 30 pounds, he is more legs than he is anything. We are guessing on his breed(s). He has the look of a Norwegian Elkhound, but not the stockiness. He is a mix of some sort, Shepard(maybe basenji?), what a unique guy. He will do well in a dog savvy home, a home without small children, also an active home with perhaps another dog. He will not do well being left alone for long hours, he is very young(perhaps under a year). Taki will be a great hiking buddy, or camping--he is just the right size to pack up and go and has the athleticism to enjoy a busy outing. He likes water as well, maybe a good kayaking buddy??

His adoption fee is $275. He will go home with plenty of supplies to help him settle into his new home. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an online application on our website, sparrowdogs.com. Requirements vary as per the individual dog's needs as far as time alone, children, other pets, fenced yard vs. leash walking and such. Our adoption donations can range from $99 for less adoptable/older dogs, and higher for puppies and other highly sought after dogs(which helps us take in needy often medically challenged dogs and cats.)
Our contract states we have the right to visit the dog, check up periodically as well as take the dog back if necessary. We get first right to the dog if adopter chooses not to keep him. We want all adopters to realize this is a serious commitment and want our dogs to go to safe, loving homes.

Go meet their pets

We periodically have adoption events, check out our website for more info! But-most of our adoption do occur at our foster home where we feel the dog or cat will be much more relaxed and the adoptive family will be able to get a better idea of the dog/cats temperament.

More about this rescue

All of our pets are in foster homes, from Sheridan to Chicago, IL We take in many special needs dogs, some physically, mentally or behaviorally challenged. Some of them have been abused or neglected, many are seniors, most just need some understanding and patience. A lot of them have never heard a vacuum before or even felt a kind pat on their heads. Fostering them prepares them for the life they so richly deserve when a kind person adopts from us. When you adopt a shelter dog, you are making a giant step in reducing euthanasia for all these great dogs looking for a home. It is not their fault, it is the fault of the human that previously was involved in their life. Thanks for checking out our website, maybe you will find the pal of your dreams.
