My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Staff thinks I will be ready by mid July. Hi, I am Delilah. My favorite hobbies are playing, playing, and more playing. My foster mom loves my play zoomies. I may be shy a first but I will warm up quickly especially if you have a feather toy. I am a bit chatty too, I like to tell you all about things. I love squeeze up treats too! I would do best in a quieter household where I have places to climb as I love to climb and sleep on my cat tree. I would be so excited and honored to be your forever cat!**Delilah will need ample time to adjust to her new home as she is still learning that people aren`t all that bad! Placing her in her own sanctuary room such as a small bathroom with food, water, bed, toys, scratching post, and litter box will help her settle in and not become overwhelmed. This room should be quiet with hiding places as well as some perches. She will need lots of positive interactions with people to learn that they are friends, so lots of treats, snuggles, and pets will help her learn to love much quicker. Don`t let the hisses and hiding scare you; working with her to build her trust will soon have her out of her shell and loving people! Once she has acclimated to the room and you, slow introductions to other animals and the rest of the house can begin. She will require some patience and love until she realizes she is safe and ok, but once you win her over she will be your best friend!***

I am not currently at the shelter because I`m growing big and strong in a foster home! You can sign up to pre-adopt me by placing a $50 choice hold. This is a non-refundable fee that does not go towards my adoption fee, but it does give you the first opportunity to adopt me. Shelter staff will contact you when I’m ready to go home with my new family! To place a choice hold, you can either come into the shelter or call us at 719-473-1741; you may wait to speak with a customer service representative or leave a voicemail. Choice holds are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis and only one choice hold can be placed on an animal.

Once I am old enough to go home, I will have to be adopted at the shelter without a visit. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to visit while I’m in the foster home as it’s a lot of stress on me to be transported back and forth to the shelter for visits, which makes me more susceptible to getting sick. We want to be healthy for our new life together!

More about this shelter

Founded in 1949, Humane Society of the Pikes Region is the largest animal welfare group for homeless and abused animals in Southern Colorado, comprising of two campuses – one in Colorado Springs and one in Pueblo – as well as animal control offices in Centennial and Douglas County. HSPPR is a local, independent nonprofit not affiliated with national organizations such as ASPCA or Humane Society of the United States and relies on donations to fund its work. Passionate and dedicated staff rescue and care for animals in distress, provide medical care for abused and injured animals, reunite lost pets with their owners, find loving homes for homeless animals, and investigate animal cruelty and enforce animal ordinances.

As an open admission shelter, HSPPR helps all animals in need – no animal is turned away. That’s more than 26,000 animals a year affected by the mission. HSPPR works every day to end the euthanasia of unwanted animals through extensive community outreach and innovative programs. You can help by encouraging friends and families to adopt a homeless pet, volunteering your time or supporting our life-saving programs by making a donation. We are better together.
