Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Ellie is a sweet beauty. She has been socializing with two resident adult dogs and two young age dogs and 3 indoor cats. She likes to play chase, bitey face, chew on sticks, explore, play with stuffy toys, and give kisses. She has been known to pause play for some snuggling!
She does well with her crate training but still learning commands. She is learning boundaries with the resident dogs and cats, potty training, getting used to wearing a harness, and much more. She is learning basic training and is motivated by treats, which will help as she continues her training.
Ellie likes to play outside and inside; wherever her person is. While she is crated she uses her bark to communicate she has to potty or when her brother goes outside without her. She sometimes uses her bark during playtime too, but she doesn’t bark at objects, noises, or people. She is fearless, full of energy, spunky, and a bit mischievous. When she is one on one with her person she is calm and gentle. Her striking features and sweet, playful personality make her hard to resist.
The ideal home for Ellie is where she can socialize with her family, continue her training, and have a new sibling to run around and play with in the yard.
When Ellie first got to Foster Care, she guarded food, smells of food, toys and high value treats. With work, she has stopped guarding toys and treats. Her foster Mom thinks she just did not know how to play with other dogs.
She continues to guard food and smells of food although she is much improved – initially, she would growl and try to nip the other dog but Ellie does continue to show body language demonstrating her discomfort about having other dogs around her food. By putting Ellie in a crate during the preparation of food AND feeding Ellie in a separate room with no other doggy interface, Ellie has had no further issues with the other dogs in the home. She has never guarded her humans or space. She loves doggy playmates so NCBR wants her to enjoy that comfort but the adopter must commit to crating Ellie during food preparation and feeding separately.
*Please note that NCBR does not accept applications for dogs that are on hold. Puppies will only be adopted to a home with a preexisting adult dog, no children under age five, no unfenced pools, and where the puppy will not be home alone for long hours. Do not fill out an application for a puppy if you do not meet ALL requirements. Your application will be immediately denied and will not be processed.
