My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nikki! This Shih Tzu – Terrier blend is 2 years old and weighs 15 lbs. This shy sweetheart is looking for someone with a lot of treats and belly-rubs and an enormous heart who will love her forever.

  • General Behavior: Nikki is a shy girl but she will “jungle crawl” to you and then immediately roll over to her back for belly rubs. She absolutely loves to be loved. When she gets excited to see you or after play she gives the cutest howl and her tail goes back and forth at 100 miles per hour.

  • Likes & Dislikes: Nikki is the cutest couch potato! She also loves to run and play for a few minutes each day.

  • Training: Nikki is a little lady with good basic manners. She is housetrained if let out frequently and lets you know when she needs to go out. She walks well on a leash and does great in the car. Her fosters are teaching her how to greet people without jumping up, even though she’s so excited to see you.

  • Medical: Nikki is a healthy girl! She’ll just need her monthly flea and heartworm medications, like any dog.

  • Other Animals: Nikki does well with other dogs as long as they aren't too active and if they keep to themselves. She hasn’t been observed around cats, but her foster thinks she’d be OK with them.

  • Children: Given sweet Nikki’s shyness and ability to spook, she would do best in a home with no children. She can easily startle and will try to run out a door.

  • Home: This easy-going gal would do well in a condo, apartment, or single-family home: anywhere there’s a sofa and someone ready to give lots of snuggles!

  • Grooming: This gorgeous gal will need weekly brushing and occasional professional grooming.

  • Overall: Nikki will be a wonderful companion for a special someone who can help bring her out of her shell.

Is there a free spot on your couch and some extra room in your heart? Could you give Nikki the wonderful home she’s been dreaming of? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with her foster family if it’s a match. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.  Her adoption donation is $425.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
