My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

NUKKUA is part of the Dreamer Litter who came south with his 4 litter mates from the Northern Manitoba community of McKenzie Island. He’s had his first set of puppy vaccines, a microchip, a dose of dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. He did also come into rescue with his mum and her name is DREAM and she strongly resembles a White Husky/Gt Pyrenees. We have no information on dad though but he could well be a Shepherd. This handsome little guy is adventurous and very outgoing but also has lots of tail wags to give. He has a real snuggly side to him as well as he loves to snuggle and fall sound asleep in your lap.

NUKKUA is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it all night and he’ll also go in there of his own accord during the day to take a nap. He’s only just started to go on walks and getting used to being on a leash and like all puppies, he’ll jump around and try to pull ahead of you on it. Housetraining is still very much a work in progress and he’s only just learning to use the bathroom outside and he does still use newspaper in the house. This energetic little guy loves to play and chase his toys around and he really likes to chew on the rubbery ones and Nyla bones due to his teething. He has several dogs in his foster home and be enjoys playing with them. He would do well with a cat in the home seeing as he’s just puppy and it would help if the cat is dog savvy. We do also recommend a slow, monitored introduction between them. We do require children to be age 6 and up and he needs a fenced yard to keep him safe when he’s outside playing.
NUKKUA is looking for an energetic family who can give him lots of walks and long hikes to help him burn off some of that puppy energy. He travels really well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two. He would love to have a fur sibling but he would do well as an only pet too provided his adopters don’t leave him alone for most of the day. He is learning his manners and will “sit” for his meals and take treats “gentle.”
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in the adoption fee and will be performed at the Barrie SPCA and must be performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first) and we need his adopter to also be in agreement with this as per our Rescue requirement. The adopter can opt to get it done at their own vets office and we’ll reimburse what we would’ve paid at the SPCA but the timeframe must remain the same in order for us to do so.

If NUKKUA sounds like the guy for you then please complete the adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
