My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team.

Why this pet is the one for you:
We knew that Ruth was a very well behaved dog with good manners. She is house trained, easy to leash and walk, greets everyone with a slow wagging tail and wiggles her body in anticipation of the pets and belly rubs that she craves. She likes car rides, especially if they involve a stop for a puppucino. But, who knew that Ruth also likes a good party? We found out when a volunteer had Ruth out for a routine outing that ended in a surprise party for the volunteer. There was the surprised volunteer with Ruth who was not in on the secret. So, what was Ruth to do except join in the festivities which she did. In the midst of a crowd of people, Ruth was calm, greeted people, solicited pets and was an all around well behaved party animal. Good Ruth. Ruth will need lots of safe indoor and outdoor space that she can patrol and keep free of squirrels. Ruth will want lots of walks, car rides and adventures. Ruth will want to be your buddy whether napping next to you on the sofa or heading out with you to the next party. Ready for a plus one in your life? If so, bring a leash and meet Ruth.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
