My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cattle dog mix puppy, female

What do you get when you mix the intelligence of a Heeler with the wiggly, social personality of a Pitty?…Midge the SUPERmutt, that’s what!

Midge is the last of Minnie’s pups looking for a forever home. She’s been with CCHDR since day 1 (of her life) so you know she’s had a solid foundation. She is super sweet and social with dogs and people of all ages, and would probably be just fine with cats.

She’s currently at sleepover camp with the Party Pack in Arroyo Grande and here is what we can say with certainty:

- Potty trained

- Wildly affectionate (caution: might lick you to death)

- Playful but has an easy off switch

- Very food motivated

- Great recall

- Wants to be wherever you are

- Her snorts and grunts are the cutest thing ever (especially when she’s excited)

- Loves the water & car rides

- Surprisingly agile for her size, but also equally clumsy

- Beautiful markings that highlight both breeds exceptionally well (super low maintenance coat)

- She’s been an off leash ranch dog most of her life, so leash work and crate training start now!

Whether you’re herding dog savvy or looking to get your feet wet with heelers, Midge would be the perfect addition to any home.

Midge is 4 months old, 25 lbs, microchipped, UTD on vaccines and can go home on a spay contract. Don’t miss the last of this girl’s puppyhood and rollie pollie wrinkles.

Midge will go home with a required sterilization deposit of $300, fully refundable upon proof of spay Surgery to be performed within14 days of designated date. ($350 adoption fee)

Midge is in Arroyo Grande, CA

More about this rescue

Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue is a Rescue Alliance partner, a federally recognized 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to finding great dogs great homes. County of San Luis Obispo Animal Service Operating Permit #C2649

Central Coast Border Collie Rescue (CCHDRescue) is dedicated to helping find homes for Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog/Queensland Heeler, Australian Kelpie, and other herding breeds and mixes. This site lists dogs in shelters as well as dogs in homes and foster care, and is intended to help adopters seeking good dogs, and dogs seeking loving homes. 7

Why we do it: Herding dogs are not for every one. Too many adopters get these dogs as status symbols only to find out, their life style doesn't meet these high energy dogs needs. As a result, these wonderful misunderstood dogs wind up in shelters. We understand what drives these dogs, we can place them appropriately.
Our mission is to educate people and save dogs. We do it because we love these dogs, with a little effort, can give them a good new life. Euthanasia is not the solution to our animal overpopulation issue. Education is.
