My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Walnut is a handsome 7-month lanky pup! Walnut is a shy, but sweet boy. He has not experienced much in his life and is learning about the world around him. He has learned he enjoys cuddling he has become very good at it! He loves food so training will be easy. Walnut had a lot of fun playing with another dog recently. He had a great time chasing her and being chased by her, but he did not like sharing toys with her, so that is a work in progress. He is a mix of Catahoula and Preso Canario, plus some unknown. He will be a big boy once full-grown! Walnut is a sweet boy who needs a patient and loving home to show him all he has missed out on, and long couch snuggle sessions!! We are open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 4. To get pre-approved for adoption same day go to spfldhumane.org and fill out an application. If you have a vet please contact them to permit them to speak or we can not process your application.

More about this shelter

We're a small shelter in Vermont covering 11 towns in Windsor County. We have a small but very dedicated staff, and an active volunteer program. We have been rescuing cats and dogs since our inception in 1941, when a wonderful woman turned her barn into a shelter. Since then we've grown quite a bit and have recently redone our entire kennel area - we have sun tubes for natural light, radiant heat in the floors, a music program and an aromatherapy program. All through the generous donations of the public. Our cats live comfortably in community cat rooms where they are free to roam and climb and play - one cat room even has a fully fenced outdoor enclosure. We have acres of field for dog walking, and a small agility course set up in an outdoor kennel. We have a large puppy room, and a larger still puppy play area outside.
