My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apply to Adopt Me!

Do you love frequent hugs with no time limit, curly hair and well-choreographed circle dancing? Abbie may be your answer for a forever housemate. She is approximately 2 years old, weighs 42 lbs. is a loving, affectionate doodle who loves people, but is a bit shy at first with men. She loves all dogs, has never met a cat while with our rescue, but is not neighborly to a bunny rabbit. She has only been with us a short time, but seems house trained. However, she does have some excitement pee when it’s time to go for a walk or when a new friend visits. This is slowly improving. She loves all types of treats, and will follow one inside her crate. She is crated when she is left alone. So far she has not been destructive, so she may be fine left free roam in the home. She is in her crate at bedtime and is fine overnight until she hears or sees morning activity. Then she is up and alert and ready to rock 'n roll. ... see previous note regarding circle dancing. She is working on having acceptable outside manners and her forever home will need to have patience. Abbie leash manners are still a work in progress. She often barks at upcoming pedestrians, but is easily settled. She pulls and often bolts at unexpected movement. The Gentle Leader headcollar is helping us help her learn to walk like a lady. She likes to fetch throwable toys. She once picked up a wash cloth that fell while laundry was being transported. She proudly presented it, but was reluctant to share it. It seems soft toys are her preference. After a long walk, she likes to come home to a big bowl of water and time to relax on the cool kitchen tile. She barks when the doorbell rings, and although she is getting used to golf carts going by in her foster home, she’ll bark if there’s something unusual. She’s fine riding in the car. She is always in the same room with her foster mom - she would prefer for people to be around her at all times. When relaxing with a book or watching TV, she comes around often for a hug. Abbie is young, playful, loyal, affectionate and energetic girl. An active family with a fenced back yard would be ideal. She will spayed and ready to go home with her forever family after July 10.

** Please read before applying for Abbie: *** Most doodle parents were never told about coat care. They just see "a cute dog." While doodles make wonderful pets, their coats are some of the most difficult and most expensive to maintain. They require more at-home brushing than a poodle and their hair can take twice as long for your groomer to wash and dry than a poodle. Due to their high maintenance, their grooming bill will be significantly higher than a poodle of the same size and they will need grooming more often. DAILY brushing and combing is a MUST to prevent painful mats, with professional grooming required every 4-6 weeks. At-home bath regimens are lengthy. Water will shrink up the two coat types and cause immediate matting. To avoid mats you will need to brush then comb the entire body properly when the pup is dry. This includes if your doodle gets wet from rain. Educate yourself by researching coat care of a doodle. If you are sure you have the time, patience and financial means to devote to Abbie, match ALL of the qualifications above, and you live in the greater Orlando area, please complete an application and tell us how you are the perfect family for her.
