Onyx is an 1 year old , 37 lb Idaho Shag that is looking for his “furever” home. He is a delightful, affectionate dog with a fun personality that will bring joy to any home. While he may be a bit shy at first, he quickly warms up, especially to women, and reveals his sweet and loving nature. He thrives on attention and loves to play, making him the perfect companion for an active individual or family.
Playful and Energetic - He enjoys playing fetch and loves running around in a big fenced yard. Onyx is also great with other dogs, getting along well with them and being submissive to senior dogs.
Outdoor Enthusiast - Onyx loves water, whether it's running through an irrigation ditch or splashing in a pond. He's an excellent companion for camping and hiking trips.
Well-Trained - Onyx has great recall to his name and knows basic commands like sit. He is good on a leash, house-trained, uses a doggie door, and is large crate trained with toys.
Fearful of Brooms - He is working on overcoming his fear of brooms and similar objects, and he's showing improvement.
Treat-Motivated - Onyx is highly motivated by treats, which makes further training a breeze.
Car and Walk Lover - He enjoys car rides and walks, making him a great travel buddy.
Puppy Excitement - Onyx can get excited and be a bit mouthy with hands and arms, so it's important to consider the size and age of children in the home. Older, respectful children is preferred. Onyx is still a pup and has some chewing tendencies, but is usually satisfied with a good assortment of chew toys.
No Small Animals - Onyx has a strong prey drive and will chase chickens and small animals. He did not pass his cat test, so a home without cats is needed.

Since our formation in early 2013, we have helped save thousands of cats and dogs throughout Idaho from neglect, abuse, and death. Many of our rescues come from the Burley Idaho Animal Shelter where PAWS has transformed what was once a high kill facility to a shelter where every adoptable animal gets a second chance! PAWS also takes in stray pets from all over Idaho including Twin Falls, Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell. We work our very hardest to respond to every call for help!
PAWS Rescue, Inc. saves all breeds of cats and dogs of all ages as well as animals who have been hit by cars, shot, abandoned, abused, and neglected.
Rescued animals are placed in loving foster homes or transferred to other no kill partner facilities giving them a chance to find the perfect forever home. Our efforts give these deserving animals a second chance at a happy life.
Every animal receives veterinary evaluation and care, including spay/neuter and vaccines, as well as treatment for any other medical issue they may have. No animal is ever euthanized due to expense.
